Paramount’s Mission Impossible: Topping ‘Top Gun’

It turns out there is only so much even Tom Cruise can do.

“Top Gun: Maverick” gave a strong boost to Paramount Global second-quarter results, reported Thursday morning. The company’s theatrical revenue soared more than fivefold from the same period last year to $764 million—48% higher than Wall Street expected. But Paramount’s much larger advertising business felt the weight of the global economic slowdown. Advertising revenue fell 2% to $2.5 billion.
